So, I should be getting a new server sometime in the next 6 months...
And here is what I want... I want a live CD distribution of some type of BSD that I can toss in the CDROM drive and boot up and run apache, bind, xmail, mysql, snort, and some kind of local packet filter.
You know, something simple...
Something that boots up, mounts a cheap little (probably old) swap drive, and a software raid drive (hardware would be cool, but hey, I'm cheap.. only hardware raid on my workstation) and sets up all my stuff....
But, alas, no-one has built such a thing that I can find...
I
love m0n0wall..
Maybe I will dig in and see how they use php for the config stuff...
But, I will probably wind up using
OpenBSD and rolling my own...
*sigh* Like that won't take too much time...
And I'm not sure I have a good way to test it, either... I mean, I update mysql on a CD image, reboot the server and have it barf...
So now I have to burn another new image? Man, I'm not that good..
I'd eat through CD's like I listened to music...
